Every Hindu wishes to attain mukti or salvation. The word Muktinath (Lord of Liberation) is the synthesis of two words “mukthi” and “nath” which means salvation and god. Therefore this site is visited by thousands of devotees who wish to attain salvation. Hindus also call this as “mukthikshetra”. Hindu mythology says that Lord Vishnu turned into a “Saaligrama” after the curse of Brinda, and got salvation at this holy place, therefore Lord Vishnu is worshipped as Muktinath. The Muktinath Temple is a symbol of religious unity as both Buddhists and Hindus visit this place, Lord Vishnu is worshipped as “Avalokishteshwara” by the Buddhists. The temple is in a Pagoda Style and has the metal statues of Lord Vishnu, Godess Lakshmi, Saraswathi, Janaki, Garuda, lava-kusha and Sapta-Rishis.
